Just Being

Being a carbon-based life-form is quite hard. Of all the things to end up as it’s probably the trickiest to manage. How hard is it? Well, it’s more than hard, and it’s not our fault. The reason is this: asking one (or one-million) to go through its existence without expelling any carbon at all is a bit like asking a fish to be a bit less wet, please, or a prostitute from a long line of prostitutes who really loves her job to–well, you get the picture: it’s a non-starter. And what makes things even harder is all the temptation out there: cheap flights, but flying is bad for you. Chocolate wrapped in plastic, but don’t buy chocolate (or other plastic-wrapped stuff) because then you are feeding in to the whole supply and demand thing. Grr! Being carbon-based isn’t something we asked for, is it? No, we’re just stuck that way until the end of time. It’s all about compromises, you see, and we’re only just getting around to understanding what that word means for us and our once luscious and green-filled planet.

Who knows what the future will hold for us mere mortals. It’s hard to tell. But if we’re all going to continue being carbon-based (and we really don’t have much choice in the matter, I suppose) then we need to get our acts together massively. It’s no good complaining about everything, we need to change things! And you can really, actually, no joke start doing this at home. You don’t need to cancel that holiday to some trashy beach resort in Benidorm either. You can start by doing a bit less of everything you do which is bad news (unless what you do is entirely bad news, in which case you should really try and cut it out altogether).

Just before I go, I was talking to my brother who works in the business world and he reckons that there is massive return in buying stocks for home heating oil. Just another thing that us carbon-based lifeforms are doing to kill the world, and making money in ruturn, to distroy the world even more. I must say I am getting sick to death of the fact that everyone seems to have the same rationalization on this.
